Blockout fabric stops light through the material. Some light still comes in around the edges where the brackets sit and below the bottom bar. If you need absolute pitch darkness, pair with curtains or choose honeycomb blockout which seals tighter.
Sheer fabric lets you see out during the day while people outside see a soft filtered view. At night with lights on, you become visible. For day and night privacy, consider duo roller instead.
