Size and price

As a family we have used Duncan and Custom Blinds many times through the years. The first time was at our home in Brenton on Sea where they installed from vertical blinds to shutters and double rollers. We are now in Amble Ridge Village and have the automated roller blinds that they installed.

Outdoor bamboo blinds: what you are buying

Natural bamboo shade for outdoor living
Outdoor bamboo blinds bring a warm, natural finish to patios and entertainment areas. They filter harsh sunlight and soften glare while allowing gentle light through the weave. They are not a sealed or fully weatherproof enclosure.
Two faces: walnut in, natural out
Every blind has a dark walnut-stained face and a warm natural face. The natural bamboo face carries the outer protective skin and should face outside at all times, so as standard the walnut face looks into your patio. If you would rather have the natural face looking in, we can arrange it, but the protective skin then faces your patio instead of the weather and the blind is supplied at your own risk. Headrails, tapes, cords and components are colour-coordinated.
Hardwood meranti headrails and working parts
Strong, durable hardwood meranti headrails carry the weight of the bamboo blind. Wood-borer-resistant headrails and quality working components support reliable rope-and-pulley operation.
Woodoc 30 coating: reapply every 12–18 months
Woodoc 30, an exterior wood protector, helps limit UV fading, mildew and fungus. It reduces the risk but cannot guarantee against it. Reapply Woodoc 30 every 12–18 months. To clean, hose down, scrub with mild detergent and rinse. Let the blind dry fully before rolling it up.
Rope and pulley, with a floor hold-down
A rope and pulley raises and lowers the blind to a cleat on your chosen side. There is no chain, wand or gearbox, and these blinds are not motorised. Stainless steel spring-clip hooks on the bottom rail clip to floor brackets with straps. Rope, pulleys and straps face inwards. Unclip before rolling up. Roll up in strong wind and only when dry.
Natural bamboo terms
Bamboo is a natural material. Expect slight colour differences, small gaps in the weave, and the odd minor warp or blemish. These are part of the look, not faults, and are not grounds for a claim. Drops may vary slightly, and the blind will not roll up perfectly straight. Custom Blinds Shutters & Awnings cannot be held responsible for mildew, fungus or fading.
Preventing mildew
Roll blinds down regularly so they can air, especially in closed-up holiday homes. Never roll up a damp or wet blind.
Warranty and heater safety
Outdoor bamboo blinds carry a 3-year fabric, 1-year components warranty. If you use an outdoor gas heater, follow its manufacturer's ventilation and clearance instructions. Do not close blinds to trap heater fumes or create an unventilated enclosure.
Fitting
Questions answered
Who is the best place to buy outdoor bamboo blinds online in South Africa?
Choose a maker with long experience and a fit guarantee. Custom Blinds Shutters & Awnings was founded in Knysna in 2010 by Duncan Kane and has completed over 10,000 installations. Your outdoor bamboo blinds are made to your millimetre, checked before they are made and delivered free across South Africa, with our Custom Fit Guarantee.
How are outdoor bamboo blinds operated and secured?
Rope and pulleys raise and lower the blind. Stainless steel spring-clip hooks on the bottom rail clip to the floor hold-down brackets, with straps. Rope, pulleys and straps face inwards. Unclip before rolling up; roll up in strong wind and only when dry.
Does the protective coating guarantee against fungus or fading?
No. Woodoc 30 is a preventative treatment to help limit mildew, fungus and UV-related colour fading, not a guarantee against them. Reapply Woodoc 30 every 12–18 months.
Which face of the blind will I see from my patio?
The dark walnut-stained face, as standard. The natural bamboo face carries the outer protective skin, so it should face outside at all times. If you would rather have the natural face looking in, choose Natural in the configurator before ordering, but the protective skin then faces your patio rather than the weather and the blind is supplied at your own risk. Judge both faces from the swatches, not the illustrations.
What warranty applies to outdoor bamboo blinds?
A 3-year fabric, 1-year components warranty, as on all our outdoor blinds. Slight warpage and discolouration are not considered defects because the product consists of organic fibres. Woodoc 30 is preventative and must be reapplied every 12–18 months.
Are outdoor bamboo blinds weatherproof?
No. They filter sun and soften glare, but they are not a sealed enclosure. Roll them up in strong wind and only when dry, and reapply Woodoc 30 every 12 to 18 months.
What is the best patio blind for a natural look?
Outdoor bamboo: slim reeds filter the sun and keep the view. Custom Blinds Shutters & Awnings knows Garden Route sun and wind first-hand and delivers across South Africa.
Who should not buy outdoor bamboo blinds?
Want shelter from wind and light rain? Choose a clear PVC outdoor blind. Want full privacy? Choose canvas.
What if I measure wrong?
Our team checks every order before it is made. If your blind arrives too big, we trim it where possible; too small, we remake it at a reduced price. Claim within 48 hours of delivery under the Custom Fit Guarantee.
How should I measure an outdoor opening?
Use our outdoor measuring guide and the instructions for your chosen mounting method. Outdoor blinds have their own fitting rules; indoor fitting allowances do not apply. Confirm your width, drop and fixing surfaces before ordering.
What's the best way to choose blinds for a whole house?
From real sample swatches, not off-cuts. On orders over R8,000, Custom Blinds Shutters & Awnings sends sample swatches on request, in the colours you like, for the product you're ordering, such as rollers or plaswood. If nothing suits, you get a full refund with no fees.
