Bathroom blinds
A bathroom asks two things of a blind: privacy at the times you need it, and survival in a room that gets wet. Custom Blinds Shutters & Awnings makes both to your window size, and this page is honest about which materials we will and will not stand behind in a damp room.

Which bathroom blinds we would fit
- Plaswood venetian
- A PVC slat that tilts, so you can have daylight without the window being see-through. It is a 50mm slat, so it needs about 65mm of recess depth. Not warranted against warping, bowing or discolouring, which is the trade-off worth knowing before you buy.
- 25mm aluminium venetian
- Slim slats for a small window, and the one venetian we also make with a no-drill bracket. Choose a plain painted colour: metallic, perforated and pure aluminium finishes are not recommended for a damp room and carry no replacement if fitted in one.
- Honeycomb blockout
- For a bathroom window you want covered permanently. Cellular, no slats to dust, and it sits neatly in a shallow recess.
Bathroom blind questions
What are the best blinds for a bathroom?
A Plaswood venetian, or a 25mm aluminium venetian in a plain painted colour where the window is small. We have been fitting blinds on the Garden Route since 2010, where damp and salt air are everyday conditions, so we will tell you what our warranty actually covers in a bathroom: not metallic, perforated or pure aluminium slats in a damp area, and not PVC against warping, bowing or discolouring. Choose knowing that and there are no surprises later.
Will a wooden or bamboo blind work in a bathroom?
We would not put one there. Wood is not warranted against its natural tendency to warp, or against fading, and a bathroom will test both.
How do I get privacy and still keep the light?
A venetian, tilted. Closing the slats upward throws daylight at the ceiling and leaves no line of sight through the window. A blockout blind gives you privacy only when it is down, and a dark room with it.
My bathroom window is tiny. Is there a minimum size?
We suggest 25mm slats rather than 50mm on a small window. What matters is the depth of the recess: a 25mm venetian needs about 40mm to sit inside the frame, a 50mm-slat Plaswood venetian about 65mm, and honeycomb about 45mm. Measure the depth before you choose.
I rent. Can I put a blind in the bathroom without drilling?
Yes, on a 25mm aluminium venetian, which we make with a tension-mount no-drill bracket. It needs at least 40mm of frame depth and an opening up to 2m wide. See whether your window qualifies.
Can you tell me what will last in my bathroom?
Send us a photo. WhatsApp 076 022 8410 with a picture of the window and tell us whether it gets direct steam from a shower and whether you are near the sea. We will tell you what we would fit, including when the answer is that none of it is a good idea.
