Room-darkening side guides
A roller blind leaves a thin line of light down each side. Side guides are aluminium profiles that run down those edges so the blind closes them. Custom Blinds Shutters & Awnings supplies them on blockout roller blinds, made to your window, for greatly reduced side light gaps.

Two ways to fit them
Face fix
Two profiles form a U-shape, mounted on the outer edge of the blind where it is fitted to the wall or frame. The one to use for a shallow reveal, or where you want a full-frame look.
Recess fit
The profile runs along the inner edge of the window reveal. The blind fabric overlaps slightly in front of it, closing the gap at the edge.

Questions people ask
What are the best blinds for a dark bedroom?
A blockout roller blind with side guides. The fabric does the room and the guides do the edges, which is where the light actually gets in. Custom Blinds Shutters & Awnings has been making blinds since 2010, much of it on the Garden Route coast, and makes both the blind and the guides to your window size so the two fit each other.
What do side guides cost?
They add 20% to the price of your blockout roller blind, including VAT. Price your blind first, then add 20% to it.
Can I put side guides on any blind?
No. Custom Blinds Shutters & Awnings supplies them on blockout roller blinds. They are not available on the value ranges, and they cannot be combined with a no-drill tension mount, because the guides fix into the reveal or the frame and the tension mount then has nothing to do.
Can I have side guides on a motorised blind?
No. A blind is either motorised or fitted with side guides, not both. If the window is one you want dark, the guides are the one to take. If it is high up or hard to reach, take the motor.
Do side guides work with a recess fit or a face fix?
Both. On a recess fit the profile runs along the inner edge of the reveal and the fabric overlaps in front of it. On a face fix, two profiles form a U-shape on the outer edge of the blind. Tell us which way your blind is going and we will supply the right one.
How do I order side guides?
They are a special order, so they are not on the blind builder yet. WhatsApp 076 022 8410 with your window sizes and the colour you want, and Custom Blinds Shutters & Awnings will quote the blind and the guides together.
What colour side guides should I choose?
White, ivory, grey, brown or black. Most people match the window frame rather than the fabric, because the profile sits on the frame and reads as part of it.
