Living room blinds

The living room usually has the widest windows in the house and the most jobs for one blind to do. Pick by the problem you actually have, not by the product name, and the choice gets much shorter. Custom Blinds Shutters & Awnings makes all of these to your exact size.

Glare on the televisionBlockout roller →
A blockout fabric takes the light out from behind the screen. Bring it down for the film and roll it away afterwards.
Daylight, but not the neighboursZebra day-night →
Alternating sheer and opaque stripes that line up or offset, so you can dial the daylight and the privacy together rather than choosing one.

A light-filtering fabric that keeps the view and softens the afternoon sun.

Living room blind questions

What are the best blinds for a living room?

It depends on the window rather than the room: a zebra or duo roller where you want daylight and privacy from the same blind, a vertical across sliding doors, and a blockout roller where there is a television. Custom Blinds Shutters & Awnings has been fitting blinds since 2010, much of it on the Garden Route, where the afternoon light does most of the deciding. Tell us which way the room faces and we will narrow it for you.

Sliding doors: vertical or roller?

Vertical. They are suited to wide windows and sliding doors, and the louvres draw sideways rather than the whole blind lifting, so the door still opens with the blind in place.

What is the difference between zebra and duo roller?

A zebra is one fabric with alternating sheer and opaque stripes that you offset to adjust the light. A duo roller is two separate fabrics, a sheer and a blockout, on one shared bracket. Zebra is the neater blind; duo gives you a true blockout when you want it.

Can I have them motorised?

Yes. We fit Somfy and Motion motors, both carrying a five-year manufacturer warranty, and they are worth it most on the windows you would otherwise not bother to close. See the motorised range.

Will living room blinds fit inside my window recess?

That depends on depth. A roller needs about 50mm, a zebra or day-night about 90mm, a duo roller about 100mm, and honeycomb about 45mm. Vertical blinds are usually fitted outside the recess. The measuring guide has the full list.

How do I get the same colour across a whole room?

Order the room together. Fabric and slat dyelots vary between batches, so blinds ordered separately may not match exactly even in the same colour.
